Kernow Healing Sanctuary

Our Story

Built stone by stone, for a reason

How the sanctuary came to be, why each part of it exists, and what we are still building.

Why any of this

It began with people who had been left out

So many arrive having spent decades holding everyone else. The sanctuary was built for them first, and then for anyone who recognised themselves in that.

A field, and a question

The beginning

A field, and a question

Before there was a sanctuary there was a piece of Cornish ground and one question: what would a place look like if it were built entirely around people rather than treatments? No timetable to keep. No performance of wellness. Just land, and the time to meet it.

Raising the Star Stone

The first stone

Raising the Star Stone

The first thing built here was not a building. It was a stone, raised by hand and set to the light. It is not a stone circle, it is the beginning of a map of the heavens in granite, one of only a handful of its kind in the country. On clear evenings the sun sits on its crown like an eye opening. Everything else was placed in relation to it.

Sound, salt and stillness

The rooms

Sound, salt and stillness

The sound rooms came next, gongs, crystal bowls, drum and voice in a warm barn where sound is felt through the floor and the ribs. Then the Himalayan salt beds, the reflection room and the circle room. Each was built because someone arrived needing it, not because a brochure said it should exist.

The horses arrived

The herd

The horses arrived

Horses have walked beside us through every age of human life. They read what we hide from ourselves and answer only to what is honest. Bringing them into the work changed it entirely: leadership, healing and spiritual connection now begin in a field, at their pace, with consent asked and given.

Never more than ten

Now

Never more than ten

Every retreat is capped at ten people. It is the number at which a group can still hold every person in it. Bespoke by design, what arrives in the room determines what is offered. The garden grows what the kitchen serves, and the land sets the season's rhythm.

Principles

The rules we built to

Six commitments that decided every stone, room and hour of the day.

Land first

Nothing here competes with the landscape. Every space was sited to sit inside it.

No claims

We make no medical promises. We create conditions in which rest and reflection become possible.

Ten people

Small enough that nobody disappears, large enough for a circle to hold.

Consent always

With the horses, in the circles, in the rooms, nothing happens to you without your yes.

Built by hand

Stone raised, timber cut, garden planted. The sanctuary is a made thing, not a bought one.

Open door

Faith, science, scepticism and searching are all welcome. Love is the only requirement.
